Type 2 Diabetes—Are Your Clients at Risk?

A recent CDC report found that more than 100 million Americans are now living with diabetes or prediabetes—which if left untreated will change to diabetes within 5 years. As the 7th leading cause of death in this country, diabetes represents a serious health issue for many Americans. Type 2 diabetes is also associated with other inactivity-related health issues, including coronary heart disease, obesity, hypertension and abnormal blood lipids. The good news is, diet and exercise can help decrease the risk factors of getting diabetes. As a health and fitness professional, you play a crucial role in your clients’ lives by creating exercise programing that can help fight this widespread disease. This video training will teach you how.

Led by James S. Skinner, Ph.D.—the ACE Senior Advisor on Exercise Science and a former president of the American College of Sports Medicine—this video training offers research-based strategies for preventing and managing Type 2 diabetes with exercise, and covers which exercise programs are most effective to combat this silent killer. You’ll gain valuable insights and tools that you can put to work immediately with your clients who are diabetic or have prediabetes.

You will learn:

  • To identify the optimal intensity, duration and frequency of exercise (both aerobic and strength training) and why they are most effective.
  • How factors like insulin resistance, HbA1c and genetics associate with Type 2 diabetes.
  • To understand the close relationship between body weight (especially body fat) and Type 2 diabetes.
