Business Practices for Creating an Inclusive Work Environment

This training is part of our Taking Action with ACE series. Be sure to check out Taking Action With ACE: Practicing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as a Health and Exercise Professional (FREE to ACE Certified Pros) and Taking Action with ACE: Practicing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as a Fitness Business Owner, which are recommended for all health and fitness leaders in any role.

With the goal of giving individuals and communities access to health and fitness programming that positively impacts their lives, it’s time we all start taking action in the fitness industry to ensure all participants have equal access and feel welcome in every environment. One of the key roles that can have a major influence in creating a more inclusive industry are fitness directors/managers.

As a fitness manager, director or other health leader with direct reports, it’s essential to foster working environments in which your staff feels valued and included by focusing on improving equity, diversity and inclusion in your facility. In this video training, you will deep dive into why professionals in our industry need to refine their understanding of inclusivity, bias and opinions, so they can learn to be more welcoming and open. This will empower your staff to better coach and educate their clientele with mindfulness as well as with an impartial and wholehearted approach.

Led by global Wellness Educator and ACE Pro, Katrina Pilkington, MS who also studied Diversity and Inclusion at Cornell University, you’ll be equipped with the tools to understand how to remain equitable, embrace diversity and foster inclusion to improve health outcomes for groups that have been marginalized and underserved. She’ll share how to bridge health and fitness with inclusion coaching so that you can help shift the culture of wellness into one that is centered around belonging and accessibility.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Define how equity, diversity, and inclusion relate to those in the fitness business
  • Recognize how your own bias as a health or fitness director/manager may impact your ability to lead your staff as well as how to address these biases
  • Amplify voices in a diverse staff while creating an inclusive working environment
  • Actively take steps towards creating business practices that keep accessibility and fairness in mind
