Spark client motivation by connecting brain health with exercise
For health and exercise professionals, gaining an understanding of the relationship between exercise and the slowing of cognitive decline is critically important, especially when working with clients in the active aging population. As study after study continues to demonstrate that the benefits of physical activity extend beyond the body, affecting the health of the brain on multiple levels.
In this video training, you will explore the basics of brain health and the fundamentals of neuroscience. This includes learning about neuroanatomy, neuroplasticity, and cognition, as well as the many ways in which physical activity affects the brain.
Once the fundamental knowledge of neuroscience and the brain benefits are understood, you’ll explore how to apply these learnings to programming for your clients. This goes far beyond just ensuring clients are exercising with proper technique. You’ll discover how to create exercise programs that include certain acute variables and modalities with a strong evidence base showing they can prevent cognitive decline and improve brain health.
Led by Ryan Glatt, MS, Certified Personal Trainer, National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and Brain Health Coach at the Pacific Brain Health Center in Santa Monica, California, this course will enhance your knowledge of brain health and add value to your services, thereby improving the opportunity of getting referrals from allied health professionals. In addition, leveraging this knowledge can help keep your clients motivated by connecting their physical activity directly to cognitive health.
Upon completion, you will be able to:
- Understand the concepts of brain health, neuroanatomy, neuroplasticity, and cognition
- Explain how exercise can affect the brain at multiple levels
- Utilize different modalities of exercise to benefit the brain in similar and unique ways
- Apply a multimodal exercise plan to clients to increase the chances of improving brain health through different forms of exercise
- Personalize exercise plans for your clients through frequency, duration and intensity for the general goals of brain health
